How long is an EPC valid for?

EPCs are currently valid for 10 years from the date of issue. For more on EPC expiry dates click here. If you are selling property you should check the national epc register as soon as possible at https://find-energy-certificate.digital.communities.gov.uk/ and check if there is a valid EPC in place for your property.

There register will show you the expiry date of the certificate. Please remember that the certificate must be valid on the date of your completion, not just when you market your property for sale, it’s not uncommon for people to have one in place when they commence marketing and then for it to have expired before completion date.

The same validity period exists for landlords too, but landlords can face large fines from trading standards for letting a property without a valid EPC so its really important if you’re a landlord to keep a check on the expiry dates on your properties and make sure you’ve arranged to have a new certificate in place before the current one expires.
