Should I just get the cheapest EPC?

The old saying of “If it looks too good to be true, It generally is” is never more true than with EPCs. The internet is littered with local and national companies offering EPCs at rock bottom prices to try and draw customers in but try getting one, try getting one quickly, try getting one that’s accurate and you can rely on. Let’s be honest here, we all love a bargain don’t we? But how many times in our lives have we gone for the cheaper option and then instantly regretted it when you realise that in life you only get what you pay for. Virtually all of the national EPC providers work on a panel system where the job is dished out to the nearest assessor who’ll accept the lowest fee offered, the panel will often take up to 50% of the fee so you are left with dealing with an assessor who’s being paid very poorly, needing to accept more jobs a day than they are capable of completing properly and then unsurprisingly you end up with 10 minute EPCs with the assessor running in and out again and you likely ending up with a completely inaccurate worthless report.
